Edward E. Stephens, Sr., 88, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, March 27, 2020.
Edward was born on August 3, 1931, to Varney W. and Lois (Tinsley) Stephens. He served our country in the U.S. Army from 1948-75 and finished his military career teaching ROTC at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Edward was in real estate sales and brokered the purchase of motels and hotels. He was a contractor and developer of commercial and home building. He will be remembered as wonderful caregiver for his wife, Waltraud, in the later years of her life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Waltraud M. Guldener; his son, Edward E. Stephens, Jr.; his brother, James “Smokey” Stephens; and his sister, Margaret Couch.
Edward is survived by his children, James V. Stephens (wife, Rena´ Stephens) and Patricia Bettis (husband, Greg Bettis); his sister, Mary J. Stephens; his only grandson, Blake E. Stephens; two granddaughters, Miranda and Megan Bettis; his great-grandchildren, Diamond, Iceley and London Stephens; and family members, James and Marilyn Lyons.
Due to the current health crisis, the family will have a private service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31 at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road in Chattanooga, with Pastor Josh Parham officiating. A private burial will take place at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
