Don Dowdy, 82, of Ringgold, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loved ones on March 29, 2020. Don was a graduate of Red Bank High School, Class of 1956. He was still active as an alumnus. Don attended Georgia Tech on a scholarship through Combustion Engineering. Eventually he went on to a career at TVA as a computer operations manager that spanned 31 years upon his retirement in 1991. He worked here in Chattanooga as well as spent 20 years in Muscle Shoals, Al. He was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and was in the Servants Sunday School Class.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Arvil Odell and Alma Bright Dowdy; brother, Bill Dowdy; and a sister, Juanita Dowdy Patterson.
Left behind to cherish Don’s memory are his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Dowdy; daughter, Janet Dowdy Strong and her husband, Nunley; son, David Hamill Dowdy and his wife Becky; three grandchildren, Cara and Quinn Strong and Matthew Dowdy; niece, Linda Patterson; nephew, Brent Patterson; and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held privately, graveside in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens on Thursday April 2, with Dr. Doug Plumlee officiating.
