Fresh Air Is Good For You - And Response (2)

  • Thursday, April 2, 2020
I don't think the virus is being spread by a family walking along the sidewalk, on the Riverwalk or across the Walnut Street Bridge.

More likely it is being spread by people loading into and riding around on CARTA buses.

Fresh air is good for you.  Exercise is good for you.

Why in the world would someone order all citizens to stay in their house?

Getting outdoors is good for people. Walking can be great for your health. There is a mental benefit.
The decision to direct people to stay off the streets is based on two things.

The experts advise it in certain situations based on the effectiveness of sheltering in place.
Secondly, too many people ignore the six foot social distancing rule. They either live under a proverbial rock, don’t believe the guideline, or just don’t care. Beyond that, some people don’t seem to have the mental capacity to remember and follow rules. These are the same people that never turn their headlights on when it is raining.

Regarding Governor Bill Lee’s Executive Order 23 to shelter in place (stay at home): you are still allowed to go outside for exercise (for example, a walk, run, or bicycle ride), provided you practice social distancing. This is documented in the order: item 8, section d.
