Exie Nell Glascock Carpenter passed this life on May 14, 2020, surrounded by family, at the age of 87.


She was born on March 7, 1933, in Meridian, Ms., graduated from Meridian High School, and resided in Chattanooga for over 60 years.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Ela Faye Glascock, two brothers, Lamar and Talmadge Glascock, and a sister, Faye Welsh. 

 

Nell dedicated her life to the Lord and her family, and was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. Over the years, she served others through church activities including choir and social circle, Girl & Boy Scouts, Stuart Heights Garden Club, her children’s schools, and many other volunteer pursuits. She enjoyed handiwork such as crocheting and sewing, family gatherings, and camping in state parks and the Great Smoky Mountains. 

 

She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, William Luther Carpenter Sr., three children Alyese (Eugene) Baker, Bill (Susan) Carpenter, and Theresa (Larry) Flippo, eight grandchildren James (Joy) Baker, Laura Beth Baker, Ashley (Derek) Reneer, Hannah (Michael) Lynch, Will (Allison) Carpenter, Clint (Misty) Carpenter, Barret (Cortney) Griffy, and Ally Griffy, and eight great-grandchildren Seth and Colin Lynch, Audrey and Wesley Carpenter, Carter Carpenter, Betty Baker, Matthew Cartwright, and soon to be born Sawyer Griffy. She is also survived by three beloved sisters-in-law and a host of nephews and nieces.

 

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.  A Celebration of Life Service for Nell will follow at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the North Chapel with her Pastor Evelyn Harris officiating.  Burial will follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park.   You may watch the service live by joining us at https://www.facebook.com/chattanooganorthchapel/

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Nell Carpenter to the St. Luke United Methodist Church choir and music program, at 3210 Social Circle, Chattanooga, Tn. 37415.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at Dominion Senior Living and Kindred Hospice for their loving care.

 

We respectfully request that "social distancing", wearing masks, and all CDC measures be adhered to at the funeral home and at the cemetery.
