Alvin followed in his father's footsteps and was a life-long carpenter and builder. He retired from Cleveland State Community College in March 2006 after 25 years of service. After retirement he enjoyed the constant companionship of his great-granddaughter Allie Stanfield. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his laughter and his love of life, family and the Lord. He was a member of the Ridgeview Baptist Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years and caregiver, Clara E. Beck of Cleveland; children, Keith Beck of Hawkinsville, Ga., Kellie Beck, Mark Beck, Amanda Garren and Suzanne Stanfield all of Cleveland; grandchild, Kyle Beck; great grandchildren, Allie Stanfield, Lexi Beck and Aiden Beck; sisters, Wilma West of Ocoee, Tn., and Faye Bombacino and her husband Tony of Cleveland; dog, "Sassy"; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The Remembrance of Life Service will be held private for the family with Reverend Ken Purdie and Reverend Junior Burger officiating.

Graveside services and interment, which will be for family and friends, will be conducted on Wednesday, May 20, at 3 p.m. at the Lee Cemetery in McDonald with Josh Stanfield, Mike Garren, Allen Gannaway, Michael Itson, Kyle Beck and Steve Lunsford serving as casket bearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association by going to Alz.org.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Alvin's hospice nursing staff, April, Lora, Michelle and Kristie, for their professional and compassionate care and to Hearth Hospice for their support.

The Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel has charge of the arrangements.
