Ben Hornsby
Ben Allen Hornsby, 55, passed away in his home on May 25, 2020, of a heart attack.
Ben was born in Denver, Colorado, but spent the entirety of his life in Chattanooga. He attended Notre Dame High School where he wrestled and played football. After graduating in 1982, he attended Chattanooga State where he earned a degree in Respiratory Therapy. He later pursued a BS degree from UTC. He worked as an entrepreneur with an emphasis on medical sales. Ben’s loyalty to his country lead him to the Marine Corp Reserves in 1986.
Similar to his patriotism for his country, he was a proud supporter of Notre Dame High School and this was apparent throughout his life. He had a true passion for cooking and enjoyed cooking for anybody around him. He loved Tennessee Vols, Notre Dame football, and Jimmy Buffett.
Ben was predeceased by his mother, Velma Flo Hornsby, father, Benny Lynn Hornsby.
He is survived by his children Benjamin Hornsby, Blake Hornsby, Mary Stuart Hornsby, Savanah Hornsby, and Chris Hornsby; his girlfriend Kathryn Leiderman and her daughter Hannah Jarrett. Ben also had a beautiful close relationship with his sister Kim Boyd and her husband Doogan Boyd, along with their children Courtney and James Doogan Boyd.
He will be remembered by his contagious laugh, being the life of the party, his friendliness, and living large. Ben will continue to persist as the embodiment of the Jimmy Buffet quote: "I'd rather die while I'm living, than live while I'm dead." He will always remain alive in the hearts of his family. Ben will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be announced once the family has determined a date. They ask in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Notre Dame High School's football or wrestling team, Notre Dame High School, 2701 Vermont Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37404, 423 624-4618.
