John Carter Cash’s Award-Winning Film Short Film “Dragon Song” To Premiere On Heartland

  • Wednesday, June 10, 2020

John Carter Cash’s award-winning short film ’Dragon Song’ is set to make its broadcast premiere on The Heartland Network during a special More Than the Music hourlong event Tuesday.  Viewers can tune in at 8 p.m. for an encore episode of More Than the Music featuring John Carter Cash, filmed last year at the historic Cash Cabin. At 8:30 p.m. ”Dragon Song” will air along with a recent, remote conversation between Mr. Cash and host Stacy Newman. The event will also stream at 8 p.m. on Heartland’s free Roku channel and www.watchheartlandtv.com.

Filmed on location in Oregon and Tennessee, the 19-minute film is based on the aftermath of the civil war. Survivors Lamberic White and Spiney Shamblins remain lost in the ongoing chaos. Lamberic, enraged by Spiney’s drunken abuse of his wife Veronica, responds with grim measures, leading to momentous consequence. Produced by John Carter Cash and April Kimbrell, the film features appearances by John’s wife and recording artist Ana Cristina Cash, his son Joseph Cash, and chart-topping singer-songwriter Jamey Johnson.

Stacy Newman, host of Heartland original series More Than the Music, will interview Mr. Cash before and after the short film. She says, “I feel honored to share “Dragon Song” with television audiences for the first time. While John Carter Cash comes from an impressive background in music, I think he might have a heck of a future in film!”

Mr. Cash commented about the film, saying, “I wrote the song ‘Dragon Song’ in 1991 at the age of 21. It is about the nature of human darkness. The short film of the same name, set in 1875, delves into the inner evils of man, the destruction of lustful drunkenness, and the hope and possibility of redemption.”

Since October of 2019, “Dragon Song” has been premiering at film festivals around the United States including the 50th Anniversary Nashville Film Festival. The film was nominated for Best Director Narrative Short (Joseph Cash) at The Queens World Film Festival.  The film’s many awards include Best Short Film, Best Cinematography – Short Film, Best Actor (John Carter Cash), Best Actress – Short Film (Ana Cristina Cash), and Best Supporting Actor – Short Film (Eric Hamilton) at The Annual International Wild Bunch Film Festival and Best Supporting Actor in a Western Film (Joseph Cash) at The Sunny Side Up Film Festival.
