David L. Francis, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, known as "Chy" by many friends, was born in Murray, Kentucky on December 21, 1940, and died on July 14, 2020, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his aunt, Louise Hardison, his guardian, after the deaths of his parents, Reverend Clarence L. Francis and Ethel Hardison Francis, grandparents, Jim and Maude Melton Francis of Woodbury, Tn., and Joe and Cora Morton Hardison of Columbia, Tn.
David grew up in Columbia where he attended Central High School and Columbia Military Academy. He enjoyed playing football at both schools. He was active in Nashville’s Golden Gloves Boxing program for several years
He attended Middle Tennessee State University and graduated from David Lipscomb College. He served in the Tennessee National Guard for 8 years.
After a career with Roadway Express in Chattanooga and Edwards Express in Atlanta, he was Court Officer for City Court Judge Russell Bean for the last 20 years, serving the city of Chattanooga well.
David, had a strong Christian faith and served as song leader at South Pittsburg Church of Christ in recent years. He is survived by his sister, Lois Francis, of Nashville, Tn.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. CST on Saturday, July 18, at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery on Thompson Lane, Nashville, with masks on and social distancing.
There will be no public visitation.
