A $10,000 grant from The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation helped the Chattanooga Area Food Bank to provide hunger-relief to students at Clifton Hills Elementary School during the 2019-20 school year.
“Children are at higher risk for hunger than many other populations,” said Food Bank Nutrition & Programs Coordinator Dory Cooper. “In our 20-county service area, Hamilton County has the largest number of children affected by hunger. The pandemic is projected to leave up to 17,410 children food insecure and uncertain of where their next meal will come from.”
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation enabled the Food Bank to give sack packs to 208 children weekly at Clifton Hills Elementary School who were facing hunger.
During the 2019-20 school year, the Food Bank’s Sack Pack Program provides children with three-pound bags of "nutritious, easy to prepare food kids like to eat."
“The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is proud to support the food bank’s work to fight child hunger, because no child should have to worry about where their next meal will come from,” said Adam Bass, president of the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation. “At Food Lion, we recognize that when children are hungry, they can’t focus on learning. That’s why we’re so committed to ending child hunger in the towns and cities we serve. We look forward to continuing to partner with the food bank to nourish our neighbors in need.”
