This United States - And Response (2)

  • Friday, September 18, 2020

This United States is an apt beginning for this note to the reader. We have a few states that border Tennessee. We do not shoot at each other across state lines. Those days are gone. The legend however hangs on.

Just listen to the rhetoric of the President of the U.S., Donald Trump. Pitting blue state against red states as if the Hatfields and McCoys are once again at their fuedin'.  Trump has managed, not by himself, to divide the nation into two groups. They are the haves and have nots.  Hardly a recipe for good vibes among all the many that will vote in November and soon early voting begins here.

We have a choice to make that is more critical then any one in recent memory. I have the good fortune to remember FDR and the good fortune to remember Ronald Reagan. The doubters, and there are many, that we must vote for Trump fail to tell me why. I pose these questions?  What has Trump actually done for you and can you, honestly, say what that is?  Are the tax deductions passed helping you because most of that went to the wealthy? Is it the fact that the real wealth in this country got richer because of the pandemic? Did you get richer? Do you appreciate Trump's attitudes towards people of color, Mexicans (remember they are all drug dealers and rapists), or do you appreciate his disdain, real disdain for you and me?

What has Donald Trump done for me you ask?

Lowered the price of my gas by making the U.S. energy independent
Lowered my taxes
Greatly increased the value of my 401K
Gave me a break on some payments thru Wuhan flu relief
Greatly increased the quality of my and my neighbor's lives through record low unemployment
Increased my safety and security by bringing more peace to the Middle East
Greatly increased my wife’s income with a record economy
Made my job easier and increased my income by eliminating choking regulations for my company
Increased my healthcare options by reforming the VA medical system
And generally just made me happier than the Obama era “funk” everyone was in

During the 32 quarters of the Obama/Biden administration, the GDP never reached 3 percent growth in a single quarter.  That had never happened in U.S. history until that failure of an administration.  Can you imagine how inept the leadership must have been to cause eight years of anemic growth through bad trade deals and government regulation.

So now I ask you, what has Joe Biden done in his time in Washington?  What famous piece of legislation did he put worth and get passed that made my life better?

Two versions of America are exemplified here; one, a country that exists for all people, another, that the fruits of one’s labor belong totally to “me.” The irony is no matter who wins in November, Congress, the holder of the purse, and the executive will face a long term deepening recession and government deficit digging itself a larger hole. To crow about low tax burden and to praise market gains is to put another card on this house of cards.

Reality is still there regardless of political affiliation. Government debts are something that have to be paid and they come in part from lowering taxes, not to mention the payouts from trillion dollar actions. Our foreign debt holders look in glee at the partisan wrangling for they see weakness, something they can exploit easily when they call in their holdings and have only bluster as an answer or a payback.

Blindness is one thing when it is administered by fate, it’s another when it self inflicted. Finger pointing has the same dilemma, one points at the seen obstacle while three others point at the deliverer.
