Timothy “Timb” Curtis Hamilton
Timothy “Timb” Curtis Hamilton, age 66, of Hixson, passed away Friday, September 18, 2020, at his home following a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Tim was born July 5, 1954, in Chattanooga to the late Luther Curtis and Anna Ruth (Willis) Hamilton.
He was a 1972 graduate of Hixson High School and attended Middle Tennessee State University where he studied Mass Communications.
Tim was a member of Northside Presbyterian Church where he ran the sound and did video editing.
He was a television news photographer for many years. At the beginning of his career Tim had worked for News Channels 12 and 9 in the Chattanooga area. He relocated to Texas where he spent 30 years with WFAA News in Dallas.
He received many awards along the way, some of which include four Emmys and four KATYs.
Being a fan of the space program he happened to be videoing the Columbia Space Shuttle from his driveway in Mesquite, TX as it exploded in 2003.
He was also present and photographed Baby Jessica being rescued from the well. Other journeys led him to spend 60 days documenting the events unfolding at Waco, TX as well as the time of unrest at the Panama Canal.
From an early age, he enjoyed fishing with his father. He was an avid trout fisherman and his favorite place to fish was Tellico Plains, TN. He loved bluegrass music and was a talented musician playing most stringed instruments “barefoot”.
His sister, Nancy Beth Hamilton, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Janie Hamilton; sisters-in-law, Cathey Love (Mark Moffit) of Knoxville, TN; Nancy Cardwell (Jeff) of Nashville, TN; longtime brother-in-law, Bill McCreless of Knoxville, TN; and nephews, Aaron McCreless of Orlando, FL, Ethan Cardwell of Wilmington, NC, and Alex Cardwell of Nashville, TN.
There will be no visitation.
Private graveside services for the family will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Dr. Paul Rader officiating.
To comply with the Hamilton County mandate, face coverings are requested by those who attend services. All guidelines set in place by the CDC of social distancing must be followed.
