School Teacher For Over 40 Years

Lorene Kelley Marsh gained her eternal wings early Saturday morning, September 26, 2020.

She was born on Dec. 1, 1924, in Mullins Flat, Alabama to the late Walter and Rosie Kelley. Lorene resided in Lafayette, Ga., with her late husband Samuel Marsh. Lorene attended public schools in Huntsville, Al., and graduated from Pearl High School in Nashville, Tn., and went on to Tennessee A & I College where she received a bachelor’s degree in Education, and a master’s in Education. Her love for children and formal education proved great as she was an educator in Metro Nashville Public Schools, Rutherford County (Murfreesboro) Public Schools, and Hamilton County (Chattanooga) Public Schools, where she retired. Her educational tenure served well over 40 years in the Public Schools system. At an early age she was baptized at Cedar Grove AME Church in Huntsville, Al., and after marriage she joined Phillips Temple n Chattanooga. Lorene was united in holy matrimony on Dec. 31, 1969, to the late Samuel Marsh. She was a dedicated and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.

Her passion was always putting the needs of her family first by giving the best in loving care and spiritual nourishment. She spent most of her time encouraging, and motivating her legacy to be their best in everything they do. Lorene was well known for her great sense of humor. She kept everyone laughing, keeping situations light. Her smile and laugh being very contagious. 

Lorene Kelley Marsh was preceded in death by her loving parents, husband, and seven siblings.

She will forever be cherished by her loving daughter, Sandra Wingfield, and her grandchildren, Kevin Sherrell, James Sherrell, and Tanya Hale-Brown, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. 

Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, at New Home Baptist Church, Lafayette, Ga. Interment will be in Marsh Memorial Gardens.
