Ooltewah Resident Was Known As The Neighborhood Nurse

Gladys Lucille Hobbs, 89 of Ooltewah, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021.

She was born in Pembroke, NC and at the age of 16, Gladys left home to obtain her RN through the Baroness Erlanger Nursing Program. Gladys was a people person, welcoming everyone to her home with a smile. She was known as the “neighborhood nurse” as her children were growing up. Family was extremely important to her and she impacted the lives of those she came into contact with. Gladys enjoyed flowers, gardening and was an excellent seamstress. She taught Sunday School at East Brainerd Baptist Church and was currently a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she was active in the WOW Program.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Hobbs, Jr.; mother, Mattie Hunt Thatcher; son, George B. (Sonny) Hobbs, III and daughter, Patricia Snipes.

Survivors include her children, Gina (Mike) Hennen, Greg Hobbs and Brian (Jennie) Hobbs; grandchildren, Lauren Snipes, Ashlee Hobbs, Brian Hobbs, Particia Hobbs, Lilly Hobbs, Hunt Hobbs, Gracie Hobbs, John Hennen, Wade Hobbs, Jessica Jefferson and Jamie Jefferson and her great-grandchildren, Khloe Hobbs and Kaleb Hobbs.

A funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, January 21, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Hall officiating. A private interment will be held.

Memorial contributions can be made to Christ United Methodist Church, Attn: WOW Program, 8645 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421 or to a charity of your choice.
