Burton, Milton "Red" H. (Ringgold)

  • Wednesday, January 27, 2021
Milton H. "Red" Burton, 68, of Ringgold, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, January 23, 2021, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was holding the hand of his loving wife, and his children were by his side.

Milton was born on July 14, 1952 in Chattanooga. He graduated from Tyner High in 1971 and later attended Cleveland State. He began his career with L&N Railroad in 1974 and retired from CSX Transportation after a 40-year career, serving various roles in the track maintenance department.
In 1975, Milton and Kathy were married after a short courtship. Many said it would not last, but the two of them knew it was love at first sight. They raised two wonderful children together, but their most significant joy in life was their three grandchildren.

After retirement, Milton enjoyed being on the go. He and his wife loved their fifth-wheel camper and traveled extensively. Milton loved serving others. He was always the first one everyone called when they needed something fixed or needed advice. His ways were not always conventional, but they got the job done and done safely. He truly had a servant's heart.

Milton is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Kathy Burton; his daughter, Amy Burton Johnson, of Ringgold; his son, Matt Burton, and his wife, Melanie, of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Madison, Macy, and Jackson; brother, Boyce Thomas Burton, Jr. (Lillian), of Centerville, Ga.; and sister, Rhona Alexander (Neal), of Soddy. Milton had a large extended family who loved him dearly, but he loved them more.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyce Thomas Burton, Sr. and Zettie Rae Burton.

It was his wish that no one be put in danger due to the pandemic. A Celebration of Life Ceremony is planned for the summer, with details to follow through Facebook.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Darrell Johnson, the staff at Tennessee Oncology, Partners in Care and Regency SouthernCare Hospice for their loving care during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the charity of your choice.
