For the second time this season, Lee University’s women’s cross country team swept the Gulf South Conference weekly honors. Celine Ritter was named the GSC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week and Danielle Horter was selected the GSC Women’s Cross Country Freshman of the Week.

Ritter set a new Lee University record of 16:47.09 for a 5K race last weekend at the UAH Charger Invitational.

She finished 18 seconds ahead of her closest competitor and helped the Lady Flames win the team competition by 29 points.

Horter set a new Lee University freshman 5K record. Her time of 17:46.38 was third-best among Lee runners and placed her 11th overall.

As a result of the team’s performance this past weekend, the Lady Flames remained the top-rated team in the South Region. Saint Leo leapfrogged Tampa for No. 2. Tampa landed at No. 3 with Mississippi College at No. 4 and Alabama Huntsville at No. 5.

The top five of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National poll was nearly unchanged from a week ago. Adams State remained No. 1 with 236 points, while Grand Valley State moved from tied for first to second with 235 points. Augustana (S.D.) held at No. 3 (223), while Colorado School of Mines (215) and Lee (209) stuck at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. No other South Region team received votes in the national rankings.
