U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Held Long Career As A Financial Advisor

Hugh Delano Spruiell, 87, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021.

 

Hugh was born on Nov. 3, 1933, in Phenix City, Al. He considered it a blessing to attend Covenant Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga. He attended Howard College in Birmingham, Al. (now Samford University) and the University of Alabama.

 

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 – 1958. In 2003, he participated in the famous Veteran’s History Project, which can be viewed online at the Library of Congress.

 

His career as a financial adviser began in 1960 and continued until his retirement from Raymond James Financial in 2011.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Farley Spruiell Sr. and Bessie Evelyn Venable Spruiell; brother, John F. Spruiell Jr.; sister, Frances B. Smith; and daughter, Rebecca Lynn Spruiell Horton.

 

He is survived by his loving wife, Janet Walker Spruiell; son, John Walker (Kim Duncan) Spruiell; grandson, Walker Allen Spruiell; and son-in-law, John Mark Horton.

 

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Chattanooga or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
