The Notre Dame volleyball team can now make their plans for next week’s State Volleyball Tournament in Murfreesboro.

Playing at home on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Division II-A tournament, the Lady Irish didn’t waste any time taking care of business.

Needing just over an hour, Notre Dame improved to 28-5 with its 11th straight win, a 3-0 sweep of the Donelson Christian Lady Wildcats.  Set scores were 25-16, 25-18 and 25-21.

The Lady Wildcats end their season at 16-12.

It was just another day at the office for the Lady Irish as they played well in every phase of the game.  And even in situations where they trailed or the score was close, Notre Dame never got rattled as they just kept taking care of business.

Now they can focus on next week’s gathering, which begins on Tuesday morning at Middle Tennessee Christian School.

“Donelson Christian really battled today as we only had five aces and the points were really close,” said Notre Dame coach Dan Clotfelter following the match.

“I thought we played really well and we had to to win this match.  We graduated eight from last year’s team that finished state runner-up and felt like we’d be rebuilding this fall, but all these girls want to talk about is winning the state.  We’re doing what we can to help make that dream come true.

“I thought we served well as offensively, we were really good.  We were able to put tons of pressure on the other team.  DCA changed things up a little bit from what we had watched on film, but we had a week to prepare and just rolled with the punches,” the veteran coach added.

DCA coach Danielle Moll certainly didn’t make any excuses for her team.

“Notre Dame has a really good team and we knew it would be a tough match.  I thought we fought to the bitter end, but we just came up a little bit short.  We have a good group coming back, so I’m excited about the future of this team,” the third-year head coach added.

The Lady Wildcats scored the first point in all three sets and they were all close for a time, but the Lady Irish just kept doing what they do best and the Lady Wildcats didn’t have an answer.

Senior Regan Wolf had 14 kills to lead the Notre Dame attack while teammates Maggie Fillauer and Samantha Brown had 12 and 10 kills, respectively.

Fillauer also had a dozen digs.  Mary Fillauer had a productive day with 44 assists in addition to seven digs and five kills.  Riley McCormick finished the match with 27 digs while Lindsay Burns had 15 digs.  Madeline Solis and Burns both had two aces.

Claire Cordell led the Lady Wildcats with seven kills and 14 digs while Sloane Biddle followed with six kills.  Kayla Rothman had 11 digs while Reese Aldridge finished the match with 12 assists, nine digs and three aces.
