The Charles H. Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center is honoring first responders during their First Responders Appreciation Days. Between Oct. 23-28, all first responders will receive free admission* to the Heritage Center. First responders include: EMS, fire, police and front-line medical personnel.

First responders exemplify those six character traits which are highlighted in the award-winning exhibits at the National Medal of Honor Heritage Center, and include: citizenship, patriotism, sacrifice, commitment, integrity, and courage. These are the people in communities we depend on when things get dangerous, difficult, and even frightening. They are the individuals who are trained to help, protect us and our property, save us and at times run into, not away from danger.

Officials said, since the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, when we witnessed acts of incredible bravery and sacrifice, the term “first responder” has become a more familiar expression. It is the description of ordinary people, whose job it is to be first on-scene, to act skillfully, selflessly, sacrificially and at times with incredible bravery. These are our friends, neighbors, colleagues, and family-members. The National Medal of Honor Heritage Center appreciates first responders, and honors them.
