The Chattanooga Fire Department is giving the public, media and local officials an inside look at firefighters’ intense training.
The upcoming Fire Ops 101 course will give people a realistic glimpse into the fire service and they will have an opportunity to test their own skills.
The Chattanooga Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 820 and the Chattanooga Fire Department will be holding the annual Fire Ops class on Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Fire and Police Training Center, 3200 Amnicola Hwy., from 7 a.m.-2 p.m.
"You will have the opportunity to meet a number of the firefighters serving the City of Chattanooga and participate in multiple training evolutions, including fire attack, vehicle extrication, emergency medical care, rope rescue, rapid intervention skills and flammable liquids fires," officials said.
Past attendees have included Mayor Tim Kelly, city council representatives, legislators and members of the media.
"Our hope is that you will learn more about the firefighting profession, job requirements and the physical and mental demands placed on firefighters," officials said. "This event is educational, challenging and extremely fun. You will have the opportunity to engage with firefighters and ask questions about the fire service."
Breakfast, drinks and lunch will be provided.
