Nelle Tipton
Nelle P. Tipton, 100, of Cleveland passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021.
She grew up on the family farm in Muscadine, AL. Nelle and her husband owned and operated Tips Super Market on Inman Street. She was a devoted member of Central church of Christ since 1947, where she was known as “the Hugging Lady” for her generous hugs. She had a positive attitude and a deep abiding faith that saw her through her trials.
She was preceded in death her husband Theodore “Tip” Tipton, parents Richard and Alva Pounds; brother Preston Pounds; sisters Luma Connelly and Norma Allaway; nephew Donald Connelly.
Survivors include her heart daughter Lydia Atchley; niece Alva McCulley; nephews Danny Allaway, Tim Allaway, and Dennis Connelly.
The funeral will be Monday, November 29, 2021 at 4:00pm at Central Church of Christ with Minister Wayne Miller officiating. Interment will be Tuesday, November 30, 2021 in the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 10:30am with Ron Morrow, Dale Hester, Roger Fort, Kenny Johnston, Jim Skidmore, and Clay Sneed serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Monday, November 29, 2021 from 3:00-4:00pm at Central Church of Christ prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Shriners Hospital at www.lovetotherescue.org.
