Roy Edwin Lowe passed from this life to his eternal reward on December 9, 2021.

Roy was the youngest of six children born to Daniel Warren and Stella Copeland Lowe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, a sister, and one daughter, Cathy.

He leaves behind his wife, Charlotte Ann Lowe, two daughters, Suzanne (Will) Cate, Laurie (Dale) Dworak, six grandchildren, Cayenne Kruse, William Cate III, Rachel Cook, Seth Kruse, Olivia Angst and David Copeland Cate, and eight great-grandchildren: Aiden, Mary, August, Maddie May, Isaac, Isabelle (Izzy), Ottley and Theodore (Teddy).

Roy was born on Oct. 30, 1931, in Jacksonville, Tx., and moved to Amarillo, Tx., at the age of eight.  He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1950 and spent four years in the United States Air Force until May of 1955. During his high school years he was active in the Amarillo High School Choir and the Amarillo Opera Society where he began his years as a thespian.

Roy was discharged from the Air Force in January of 1955 and enrolled in the Spring term at West Texas State College where he graduated in 1958 with a degree in Music Education.

In February of 1956 Roy married Charlotte Ann Call of Pampa, Texas, also a student at West Texas State College.  Upon Roy’s graduation they moved to Dimmitt, Texas, where Roy was the high school choir director and Methodist Church choir director for five years.  During that time he completed the necessary hours of flight training for an instrument and instructor’s rating.

For the next several years Roy served as flight instructor and ground school instructor for Spartan Aeromotive of Tulsa, Red Bird Airport and Love Field of Dallas, TX, and Tennessee Airmotive of Chattanooga. He later was a sales representative, a counsellor for Chattanooga Concentrated Employment Program, and a teacher in the Chattanooga Public Schools.

Roy was active in many stage productions in Chattanooga, at the Backstage Theatre, the Chattanooga Little Theater, and at Tennessee Temple University.

In April of 1978, his life changed when he met his Savior.  He resigned from his teaching position that Spring and enrolled in TTU.  He attended Tennessee Temple University where he received a Masters in Bible in the Bible College and later taught English for three years.

In 1982 Roy and his wife, Charlotte, were accepted as missionary candidates with the International Board of Jewish Missions and after a period of deputation moved to Málaga, Spain, where they attended language school before moving to Barcelona to work.  After four years in Barcelona, they moved back to Fuengirola, Málaga, where Roy started an independent Baptist church in 1989.

In 1999 Roy was named Hispanic Director for IBJM, and the Lowes began a nearly 20-year project of taking the gospel to the Jews of all Spanish-speaking countries, witnessing personally and teaching Jewish missions in independent Baptist churches and Bible colleges wherever Spanish is spoken. God has blessed this ministry with souls saved and Hispanic men and women called to take the gospel “to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”

The family will receive friends on Dec. 16, from 5-8 p.m. and 10-11 a.m. on Dec. 17, in Lakewood Baptist Church. The Rev. Ronnie Gilbert will conduct the funeral at 11 a.m. on Friday in the church. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1 p.m.
