Melba Ann Penney Frederick
Melba Ann Penney Frederick, 83, of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on December 12, 2021.
Melba was an exceptionally loving and devoted wife, mother and friend. She was a 1956 graduate of Soddy Daisy High School and worked at Provident Insurance Company throughout the 1960s. Melba found great joy in serving others, giving selflessly of her time and boundless energy. She found her truest joy when surrounded by children and cared for many in her home.
‘Ms. Melba’ worked for the Hamilton County Department of Education as the director of the School Age Child Care program at McConnell Elementary for many years. She later worked in the office at McConnell Elementary until she retired at the young age of 78. Her family often joked that she was paid in hugs.
Melba was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James Calvin Frederick; and parents, James Paul Penney and Dorothy Gann Penney.
Survivors include her children, Jimmy (Gwenn) Frederick of Chatsworth, GA and Melanie (Adam) Driver of Hixson; brother, Johnny (Sue) Penney of Chickamauga; and sister, Peggy Heise of Orlando, Fl.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 17, from 9-11 a.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. A private graveside service for Melba’s children and their spouses will follow the visitation.
Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
