Larry James Freeman, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on December 2, 2021.  We are so grateful that his loving cousin, Donna Scott, was at his side.

Larry was born to Garland Freeman and Marie (Beard) Freeman on Dec. 7, 1950.  He entered into this world at 1:10 a.m. and was soon followed by his twin brother, Garry.  Their brother, Bobby, came along in 1952.  The three were rambunctious boys and were often referred to as “the Freeman boys”.

Throughout their young lives, those boys were always together creating mischief.  But, in doing so, they were also creating precious memories that they were able to fondly reminisce on any time they got together as adults.  Larry may have been the best reminiscer of them all!

An avid sports fan, the Red Bank Lions held a special place in Larry’s heart.  He attended Red Bank High School where he was active in track/crosscountry.  He graduated in 1969, but never stopped following his Lions.  He could often be found on the sidelines for football games or discussing the team with other local fans.

Red Bank football wasn’t Larry’s only sports passion. He volunteered as a softball coach for a women’s team at Warner Park and helped to coach little league baseball teams for Red Bank Dixie Youth.  He also enjoyed following the Tennessee Vols! From baseball to basketball to football, he was always cheering them on.

Larry loved his family!  He relished his time spent with his nieces, nephews, cousins, and even in-laws.  He was a jokester and always had a witty comment. His laugh was simply infectious.

As much as he loved his family, he also loved his Lodge.  Larry was an active member and Past Master at Hill City Lodge #603.  He was in regular attendance at meetings and trainings.  He enjoyed the camaraderie he shared with each and every one of his brothers.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Marie Freeman; his brothers, Garry and Bobby Freeman; his niece, Christy Freeman; and his nephew, Travis Freeman.

Although Larry never had children of his own, he adored his nieces and nephews, their spouses, and later their children and grandchildren.  He is survived by his nieces, Elika Foster; Jesika (Rich) Zellner; Angelique (Chris) Corder; and Brittany Freeman and his nephew, Dustin Freeman. He is also survived by his foster sister, Glenna W. Turner, sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Bell, and his special cousin, Donna (Don) Scott, along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and special friends.

Though Larry was the first of the Freeman boys born into this Earth, he was the last to leave it.  What a reunion there must have been in Heaven on December 2, 2021, when those three Freeman boys were finally brought together again!

Visitation for Larry will be held at Chattanooga North Funeral Home in Hixson, on Friday, Dec. 10, from 1-3 p.m.  Visitation will be followed by a graveside service officiated by the Rev. William (Bill) Proctor, followed by a Masonic service.

Larry will be buried as he desired, directly next to his precious mother, in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Larry J. Freeman to the athletics department of Red Bank High School in Chattanooga.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.chattanooganorthchapel.com
