Retired From The Chattanooga Fire Department After 27 Years And Was U.S. Army Veteran

Maurice Clyde Parson, 81, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, died on Sunday, December 5, 2021.

He was the son of the late Norman Olin Parson and Lydia Millender Parson. Maurice had an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science & Management and was of the Methodist faith. He was a Commander with the City of Chattanooga Fire Department, retiring after 27 years of service.  Maurice also retired from the State of Tennessee after serving for five years as a Safety Officer at Moccasin Bend Mental Health facility.  He was an U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1959 to 1962.  Maurice was a member of the Fraternal Order of Firefighters, the Red Bank Masonic Lodge, the York and Scottish Rite as well as the Alhambra Shrine. 

Maurice was preceded in death by his sister, Norma (Frank) Bedwell and brother, Norman (Sarah) Parson, Jr.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Mary Charlynne Parson; sons, Clyde (Sharon) Parson, Tampa, FL and Brian Westmoreland, Chattanooga, TN; daughter, Kelly Mitchell, Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Peyton Westmoreland, Lili Mitchell and Cassia Mitchell; nephews, Jim (Christine) Massengale and David (Glenda) Massengale and niece, Robin Patton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Donald Welmer officiating.  Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
