U.S. Army Veteran Held Long Career With Combustion Engineering

Waylon C. Powell, 87, of Lookout Valley, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021, in a local hospital. 

He was born on Feb. 4, 1934, in Pisgah, Al., to Houston and Ina Powell.  Mr. Powell was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had retired from Combustion Engineering after 38 years of service. He was a member of Lookout Valley Baptist Church. Mr. Powell loved to work in his yard and garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Powell, two daughters, Karen (Jerry) Walls and Lori (Mike) Hughes; four granddaughters, Misty (Joey) Smith, Courtney (Clay) Ensminger, Jordan Hughes and Taylor Hughes; three great-grandchildren, Raven Smith, Gracyn Smith and Olivia Evans; one brother, Gary (Joyce) Powell; several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Lakewood Memory Gardens, West with the Reverend Troy Walliser and the Reverend Royce Powell officiating.  Due to the national health crisis there will be no visitation.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, Tn.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416, Lookout Valley Baptist Church, 23 Lilac Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37419 or a charity of your choice
