Cleveland State huddle
Cleveland State men’s basketball took a key conference game on Saturday, winning 67-51 over the Tigers of Chattanooga State. The win brings the Cougars to 5-3 in TCCAA play.
Despite the uneven final score, there were 10 lead changes and four ties before the Cougars were able to pull away from the Tigers in the end. Cleveland State also outscored Chattanooga State 24-8 in points off of turnovers and forced 23 turnovers to the Tigers’ eight.
Maurice Dickson led all scorers with 16 points while also grabbing six boards with a steal. Both Jaiden Julian and Damian Forrest also had 13 points, eight rebounds, and two steals apiece.
Cleveland State will be back in action next Saturday as they face the Raiders of Roane State in Harriman, Tn. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
In the women's game, Cleveland State suffered a 67-63 on their home floor on Saturday afternoon to Chattanooga State. The Lady Cougars were able to come back and tie the game, but it was not enough to fend off the Lady Tigers in the end.
Four Cleveland State players reached double-digit scoring totals. Asjah Harrell led all scorers with 18 points and also grabbed five rebounds, dished out two assists and had two steals. Both Emma Harig and Michaela Bennefield scored 15 apiece, with Harig posting a double-double with 10 rebounds along with an assist and Bennefield posting seven rebounds, two steals and one assist. Nicky Jones chipped in 10 points of her own off of the bench and also had a game-high four steals and two rebounds.
The Lady Cougars will be back in action next Saturday as they travel to Roane State to face the Lady Raiders. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
