James, Dora "Dody" (Birchwood)
Dora “Dody” James, 86, of Birchwood, departed this life on Wednesday morning, March 3, 2021 at her residence. Born on Oct. 15, 1934 in Delano to the late Cam and Juanita Boyd Morrison, she was a longtime resident of Hamilton County and was of the Baptist faith. She retired after 20 plus years driving a school bus for Hamilton County Schools and loved blue grass music, watching NASCAR and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. James after 59 years of marriage; her grandson, Phillip James; and several siblings.
Left behind to cherish Dody’s memory are her children, Edward James (Patsy), of Birchwood, Dennis James (Joy), of Georgetown and J.P.James (Alicia), of Ider, Al.; grandchildren, Jesse, Jacob and Brian James(Trina), Amanda Collins (Garrett), Joe Dillard(Andrea), Ron Vail (Kelli), Heather James and Katie Jehlik (Jason); sister, Peggy Morris, of Athens; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life and Homegoing for Dora Juanita Morrison James “Dody” will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 7 from the Cleveland Chapel of Companion Funeral Home, with Pastor Bill Lowery officiating. Interment will follow in the McInturff Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home prior to the funeral hour.
