McCallie Middle School Tennis Defeats Westminster

At Westminster in Atlanta, the Blue Tornado won 3 of 6 singles and then 2 of 3 doubles to defeat a talented Westminster team 5-4 in middle school tennis.  Number 1 player Drew Holland was the first off for the Big Blue with a solid 8-1 win, and he was followed by number 6 player George Robbins with an 8-3 victory.  After losses at numbers 2, 4 & 5 singles, number 3 player Henry Clark rallied from a 5-2 deficit to win his match 9-8 and in the tie-breaker 7-2.  Tied at 3 all going into the doubles, the number 1 & 2 doubles teams of Drew Holland-Barnes Thomas and Henry Clark-William Negus won convincingly to get the team victory.  Henry and William won the clinching match.  This ended McCallie’s competitive season with an undefeated record.  The 8th graders have not lost an A team match since their 6th grade season, and this covers two full Fall seasons and one full Spring season.

The McCallie B team was tied 4 all after the singles competition, but they lost all 4 of their doubles and the match 8-4 to the Westminster B team.  Winning in singles was Gokul Palanati, Willie Howard, Vishnu Vardhana and Om Kapadia.  The B team lost two doubles matches in tie-breakers.
