Mocs' Beach Volleyball Downs Austin Peay For First DI, OVC Victory In Program History

he duo senior Baylee Young and freshman Jordan Krege earned their sixth-straight victory as the top pair and helped clinch the Chattanooga Mocs beach volleyball program's first ever NCAA DI and Ohio Valley Conference win during a 3-2 decision over Austin Peay on Saturday in Jacksonville, Ala.
 
Chattanooga moves to 1-1 in OVC and 2-7 overall play after the win.
The Mocs dropped a tight 3-2 loss in the first match of the day to Morehead State before rallying for the historic win in the night cap. MSU improved to 2-0, 2-0 OVC while Austin Peay fell to 1-5, 1-3 OVC.

 
UTC wraps up play at the "OVC Weekend at JSU" tomorrow with a pair of matches against UT Martin (1:00 p.m. ET) and EKU (5:00 p.m. ET). Results will be posted at GoMocs.com & @GoMocsBeachVB socials when made available.

In the first match of the day, Chattanooga nearly saw its OVC debut labeled with a victory but dropped a tight 3-2 match to Morehead State. The No. 3 pair ended up being the clincher where MSU's duo squeaked out a 2-0 (21-17, 21-18) win over UTC's Bailey Steger and Gylian Finch.
 
The combo of Baylee Young and Jordan Krege continued their stellar run as the Mocs top pair, earning a straight 2-0 (22-20, 21-15) victory over the Eagles No. 1 pairing. Young and Krege's victory marked their fifth-straight win dating back to March 19's doubleheader at UNA.

The No. 4 pair of Madelina Myers-Osband and Paige Gallentine also came out victorious against Morehead State after securing a thrilling 2-1 (21-16, 13-21, 15-11) decision. It marked the first time the duo has competed together in a match.

After dropping the No. 4 and No. 5 pairs to start things off against Austin Peay, Chattanooga rallied to win all three of the top pairings, finishing in a 2-3-1 order, to clinch its historic win.
 
Gylian Finch and Bailey Steger got the Mocs on the board with a solid 2-0 (22-20, 21-16) victory in the No. 2 slot before the No. 3 pairing of Victoria Cerino and Hanley Lomax posted a 2-0 (21-2, 21-13) win to tie the match at 2-2.
 
Baylee Young and Jordan Krege earned yet another victory in the top spot, their sixth in-a-row, in match-clinching fashion. Young and Krege cruised to a 2-0 (21-12, 21-17) win over the Govs top pair and notched the program's first ever NCAA DI and OVC victory.
