Tommy James Smith, 86, of Middle Valley entered into the loving arms of Jesus his savior on April 18, 2021, with his four loving children by his side.

Tommy was born to the late Theodore and Roma Potter Smith on August 25, 1934. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 21 years, Virginia Faye Smith. Also preceding him was his brother, Timmy Smith and his son-in-law, Daryl Hope.

Tommy was a hard worker, a simple man, and a true Southern gentleman. He took great pride in his craft as a union painter and being an American-a true patriot. He also loved the game of golf and golfing with his family and his grandsons. Tommy always said what he meant and meant what he said.

Left behind to cherish his memories are his beloved children, Roma Hope, Tommie Sue (Randy) Thurman, Renee (Ronnie) Hendrix and Tim (Sharon) Smith; siblings, Thera (Archie) Ketchersid of Whitwell, TN, Bill (Sue) Smith also of Whitwell, and Thaila (Denny) Brasch of Mackinaw, IL; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild on his way.

Our family would like to say how grateful we are for our sister Renee’s selfless love and care for our daddy every day for the last seven years.

The family will have services for Tommy at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel in Hixson on Thursday, April 22, at 2 p.m. with pastor Michael Battles officiating. Tommy’s grandsons will serve as his pallbearers.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
