Michael Walters
Michael Walters, a devoted husband, father, teacher and Christian, went home to be with his Heavenly Father, on April 20, 2021. He was 65 years old and passed peacefully in Chattanooga, Tennessee, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Michael Wayne Walters was born on Dec. 30, 1955, in Darmstadt, Germany. He was adopted by Lillian and Marcus Walters, who raised him primarily in Tifton, Georgia. After graduating from Florida State University, Walters followed his passion for helping others to a career in youth counseling and mental health services. This led him to LaFayette, Ga., where he met and married Nancy Burney Walters, his wife of 35 years, and became a much-loved member of the Burney family. As God worked in his life, Walters answered the calling to attend seminary and became an ordained minister. He was honored to officiate at his son’s wedding.
Continuing his lifelong love of learning and sharing knowledge with others, Walters became a professor at Georgia Northwestern Technical College. He was a respected faculty member who had a positive impact on his students and co-workers.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Linda Walters Walker. He will be greatly missed by loved ones including Nancy Walters of Chattanooga; and his children Courtney Skates Eoff, husband Justin Eoff and children Ellie and Brodie; and Burney Skates, wife Sarah Gilbert Skates and their children Grace and Charles, all of Nashville, Tenn.; the entire Burney family and lifelong friend Ed Jackson of Peachtree City, Ga. The family will hold a private celebration of life.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
