The NC State women's basketball team has added Madison Hayes, former East Hamilton star, to its roster. Hayes is transferring from Mississippi State where she just completed her freshman campaign. She will be immediately eligible to play for the Wolfpack beginning with the 2021-22 season.

A 6-0 guard, Hayes was tabbed to the SEC All-Freshman Team after her rookie season with the Bulldogs. She earned her first career start in mid-January and started the final nine games of the season for Mississippi State.

"Madison Hayes is a player that excels in all three phases of the game," said head coach Wes Moore. "Offensively, she can get to the rim as well as knock down the three. Defensively, her combination of strength and quickness allows her to be a lockdown defender. These same attributes make her a relentless rebounder on both ends of the court. We're excited to add the talent and toughness of Madison to the NC State program."

Hayes tallied five or more rebounds in six games last season to rank second on her team in rebounding, and she also dished out multiple assists in six outings. She posted a season-high 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting in a victory over Georgia on Dec. 31, and she nearly notched a double-double in her first collegiate game with eight points and nine rebounds in her debut.

The Chattanooga native entered her collegiate career as the No. 7 guard and the No. 28 player in her class by ESPN. Hayes was a 2020 McDonald's All-American and a member of the 2019 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup winning team. A two-time Class AAA Miss Tennessee Basketball winner, she totaled 3,055 points, 1,583 rebounds, 459 assists and 457 steals during her four-year career at East Hamilton.

In addition to Hayes, NC State is set to welcome a trio of newcomers in the 2021 freshman class. Aziaha James (5-9 guard), Sophie Hart (6-5 post) and Jessica Timmons (5-8 guard) are also set to join the Pack beginning with the 2021-22 campaign.
