The Cleveland Police Department announces the graduation of Assistant Chief Stacy Smith from the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University. The 10-week program was hosted in Nashville.

Assistant Chief Smith is now part of the alumni of graduates comprised of thousands of leaders from all over the world, many who hold chief of police positions. This program was implemented by the Center for Public Safety in 1983. Assistant Chief Smith was one of 30 students in SPSC Class #498 to successfully complete the 10-week academic program on May 28.

The SPSC program provides upper level college instruction with courses focused on leadership, organizational behavior, applied statistics, human resources, employee relations and planning and policy.
The students had their knowledge challenged in the subject areas through written examinations, class projects, presentations, as well as research papers.

"SPSC is interactive and designed to prepare law enforcement managers for positions of greater responsibility by combining academic principles combined with practical applications. Beyond the academics, the SPSC creates an environment for building relationships, sharing of experiences and networking with other law enforcement officials that will last long after the course ends," officials said.

Chief Gibson stated; “We are fortunate to have educated and experienced leadership to assist in advancing our department forward. I look forward to seeing the results of learned principles that Assistant Chief Smith acquired while a student at the command school. These types of advanced educational programs help us to be better leaders, not only within our agency, but also in the community we live in and serve.”

"Assistant Chief Smith, a valued member of the Cleveland Police Department’s leadership team, gained additional knowledge though his participation at SPSC, which will further enhance his abilities as a leader and benefit the police department, as well as our community. On June 2, 2021, Assistant Chief Smith will complete 22 years as a dedicated City of Cleveland public servant," officials said.
