Larry Dennis Hobby, 83, of Cleveland, left his earthly home for his eternal heavenly home on Friday, June 11, 2021. In his last days he was lovingly cared for by the medical professionals at Tennova Cleveland, along with the Hospice of Chattanooga staff.

He was born in Cairo, Ga. on Feb. 5, 1938, where he spent his childhood years. He met the love of his life, Betty Jean Kirksey, who he married on Feb. 25, 1961, and then resided in Albany, Ga. In 1972, Larry moved his family to Cleveland, where he resided until his death. He moved to Cleveland to begin his career with Owens-Illinois corrugated manufacturing. He also worked with Stone Container and Model Box, both in Chattanooga before retiring.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing all of his life. He also enjoyed being a member of the Cleveland Hunting, Rifle & Pistol Club, where he served as treasurer for many years.

Larry took great pride in serving his country in the United States Army, as well as the Georgia and Tennessee National Guard, before retiring after 24 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and his wife, Betty Hobby. 

He leaves behind his loving daughter, Connie Hobby Davis and her husband, Paul Anthony Davis. Additionally, he leaves behind his sister, Jeanelle McKinnon; brother, Jesse Linford Hobby, both of Cairo, Ga.; along with his three nieces and nephew.

As a Christ-follower, he was a member of Westwood Baptist Church for 40 plus years, where he volunteered and served others in the community.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at Companion Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 15. The family will receive friends and relatives from 4-6 p.m. A celebration of life service will follow.
Graveside services will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 16 at 10:30 a.m.

Larry’s family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Westwood Baptist Church or Hospice of Chattanooga.
