World War II Veteran Retired From U.S. Pipe Foundry

Joe N. Matthews, 99, of Chattanooga, died on Friday, June 18, 2021, at home surrounded by family.

He was a native of Coatopa, Al. He served in World War II and retired from U.S. Pipe Foundry. 

He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters,  Wynetta (Wilbert) McLean and Juanita Williams; two sons, Raymond (Darlene) and Fred Johnson (all of Chattanooga); two brothers, James and Isaiah Matthews (both of Cleveland, Ohio); one sister-in-law, Cheney Matthews (Cincinnati, Ohio); 13 grandchildren, including one devoted granddaughter, Shaveda McLean, who helped assist with his care; 16 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relative and friends.

Public viewing will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Thursday, June 24, and 8:30–11 a.m. on Friday, June 25. The funeral service will begin promptly at 11 a.m on Friday, June 25, in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home. Interment: Chattanooga National Cemetery.
