Several years after the Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant chain had opened eateries in other cities surrounding Chattanooga, it has opened its third local one this past week.
On Wednesday, the Chipotle at 5242 Highway 153 near the intersection with Hamill Road in Hixson opened its doors.
The first one in Chattanooga opened in December 2019 at 2122 Gunbarrel Road near Hamilton Place Mall. A Chipotle announced after construction began on the Hixson one has also opened at 20 Cherokee Blvd.
On Saturday at the Hixson location, a steady stream of diners could be seen going through the line during the noontime hour.
The restaurant, which focuses on fresh and healthy ingredients, offers such dishes as burritos, burrito bowls (without the tortilla wrap), quesadillas, salads, tacos, lifestyle bowls and chips. Dishes are prepared as the customers walk through the line.
The fast casual restaurant chain had been started in 1993 by Steve Ellis in the Denver area. It is now headquartered in California.
Chipotle is a Mexican ethnic language name for a smoked and dried chili pepper.
In other retail news in that area, a motel is under construction on the west side of Chipotle.
