Joan Lauderbach Anderson, 89, passed away peacefully June 4, 2021, at Morningside of Dalton, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul K. Anderson, Jr. and her sister, Michele Sharpton.

Mrs. Anderson grew up in Chattanooga, Tn. She was a graduate of Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, and attended Mary Baldwin College in Stanton, Va. and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

She taught for 25 years at Cheerhaven School in Dalton. When she retired, she became a Red Cross volunteer at Hamilton Medical Center. She was an active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Dalton. She especially loved and spoiled her many dogs she had over the years.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Libby Thompson of Blue Ridge, GA; granddaughter, Katie Oakes (Matthew) of Mary Esther, FL; stepsons, Kemper Anderson (Phillipa) of Kennesaw, GA, James Anderson (Carla) of Dunwoody, GA; and grandchildren, Katie Murphy (BJ), Jessica Anderson, David Anderson and Nicole Anderson, Michael Goodwin (Julie) and Geoffrey Goodwin (Liz Regas). Mrs. Anderson is also survived by brother-in law, William C. Sharpton of Clayton, GA; brother-in-law, Vincent Anderson of Mesa, AZ; nephews, Trey Sharpton (Mia) of Clayton and Bruce Sharpton (LeeAnn) of Woodstock; one great-nephew, Luke; and three great-nieces, Isabella, Maggie, and Julianna. She also leaves behind her beloved "grand-dog" Humphrey.

The family wants to especially thank the wonderful and caring staff at Morningside of Dalton, which was her home away from home for many years, and Hospice of Chattanooga, who provided compassion and care.

Mrs. Anderson's memorial service will take place at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Saturday, June 12, at 11 a.m. with the Reverends Rick Tiff and Kemper Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mark's Memorial Garden. There will be a reception in St. Mark's Parish Hall after the service.
