Chemical Plant Manager Was Forecaster Who Predicted 1993 "Snow Of The Century"

Donald Lee Seagle, 81, of Chattanooga, died on Saturday, July 24, 2021.

He was an active member of Thankful Memorial Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry and the altar guild.

Donald was born on June 24, 1940, to the late Harold Lacy, Sr. and Kathryn Margaret Miller Seagle. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Lacy Seagle, Jr. and Charles Fredrick Seagle.

Donald graduated from Red Bank High School in 1958 with honors and was elected class prophet. He served as master of ceremonies for numerous Red Bank High School reunions. Donald was a charter member of Red Bank DeMolays and earned Grand Master. He earned the Chevalier degree and was elected Tennessee State officer (Scribe) in 1960. Donald graduated with dual majors in Chemistry and Biology from University of Chattanooga in 1963 and served as President of Kappa Sigma Fraternity (Alpha Iota) chapter and was an active alum throughout his life.  

Donald’s career began at Burkart-Schier Chemical Company. He became Plant Manager and Manager of Manufacturing at the Polymer Drive plants. Donald retired from Cytec Industries formerly American Cyanamid Company in 2001 before founding his own water treating consulting company, Water Environmental Consultants. He was chosen by TVA to assist in the massive coal fly ash spill in Kingston, Tennessee, in 2009. Donald was appointed by the city of East Ridge as representative to the Hamilton County Water and Wastewater Treatment Authority (WWTA) Board of Directors. He served as president of the Harris Hills Community Association (HHCA). Donald’s hobbies included long-range winter weather predictions and he accurately forecasted the "Snow of the Century" March 13, 1993, two ice storms in 1996, and two snows in 2010.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Evelyn Seagle; two children, J. Scott Seagle and Christie Johnson; three grandchildren, Ramsey Gail Seagle, Colston James Johnson and Elizbeth Claire Johnson. Donald lived in the future and the past.

C.B. Norris, Kent Dungan, Tom Roe, Mickey Cobble, and Dickie Brown will serve as honorary pallbearers for the   funeral service to be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021. The service will take place at Heritage Funeral Home East Brainerd Chapel with Reverend Leyla King, Rector of Thankful Memorial Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park in Chattanooga.
