The Moon River music festival is preparing for the weekend of Sept. 11-12. On Thursday morning Aaron Williams applied to the Chattanooga Beer Board for a license to sell beer at the event and was approved unanimously. The festival will be from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday that weekend, when about 12,000 are expected each day at Coolidge Park.
Mr.
Williams said people will be required to bring proof of being vaccinated for COVID or a negative result from a rapid test to get inside. Vaccination cards will be checked against the person’s ID. He told the board that if an individual is recognized as being intoxicated, they will be arrested and the police will take care of them. Underage sales will be prevented with point-of-sale identification equipment after which wrist bands with bar codes, will be given. The venue is totally fenced and there are limited entrances with security stationed there and other security officers will be roaming to prevent alcohol consumption by minors. If security notices someone without a wristband, that person will be asked to show an ID.
The Walnut Street Bridge is outside of the footprint of the festival so people can stop and watch below, he said.
SoundCorps, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to building Chattanooga’s music economy will continue a series of events that were first held on Thursday nights in August. A special events beer permit was approved for the additional nights of “Station Street Live” for Sept. 23, 30 and Oct. 7. Each night from 6:30 until 9 p.m. there will be live music outdoors on 43 Station Street, which borders
The Chattanooga Choo Choo. Proceeds from beer sales will go to SoundCorps.
The Tennessee Tow Truck Association will hold its yearly convention for the 10th year in Chattanooga, known as home to the modern tow industry, said attorney Michael McGovern, representing the association. He received a special events beer license for the event. On the night of Oct. 8, from 6-9 p.m. a small street party will be held in conjunction with the convention, on 1200 Carter St., outside the convention center where the street will be closed and police security will be present. Naked River Brewing will be providing the beer.
