The Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians will honor Sheila Boyington at the Tennessee Valley & North Georgia Region Trefoil Society Luncheon for her longtime advocacy and efforts to steer young women into science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers.

The luncheon will be held in The Turnbull Building at 1401 Fort St. on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $30 and available for purchase at supportgirlscouts.org. Table and ticket reservations also can be made via email to philanthropy@girlscoutcsa.org or by phone at 800-474-1912, ext. 2007.

The Trefoil Society Luncheon is named after the trefoil-shaped pin Girl Scouts receive that symbolizes acceptance of ethical leadership values. The Trefoil Society provides financial support to Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians. Annual luncheons are held in each of the council’s three regions.

“Sheila Boyington is a tireless advocate for education, women and girls,” said Lynne Fugate, CEO of the Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians. “Her career is focused on developing educational technology and her community service includes national leadership in an organization promoting STEM careers for girls and women. It is a privilege to honor her at the Trefoil Society Luncheon.”

For 20 years, Ms. Boyington, a former Girl Scout, has led Thinking Media, an educational technology firm based in Chattanooga, as co-founder, CEO and president. Ms. Boyington has served Million Women Mentors, an organization dedicated to encouraging girls and women to explore STEM careers, for more than six years and holds roles as honorary state chair, state chair and steering committee member in more than 40 states. She also serves as an advisory co-chair for the Women’s Business Collaborative and chairs the WBC STEM initiative. Ms. Boyington has received numerous awards and accolades for entrepreneurship and leadership.

“Girl Scouts shows girls and young women multiple paths to self-discovery, independent thought and leadership,” Ms. Boyington said. “In my time as a Girl Scout and an active troop leader when my two daughters were growing up, I developed a deep respect for the organization. Being honored at the Trefoil Luncheon is humbling, and I appreciate the recognition and placement among all the women who have been honored in our region.”

The Chattanooga Trefoil Luncheon is sponsored by EPB and First Horizon Bank.

For those unable to attend the luncheon, donations in honor of Ms. Boyington can be sent to Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians, Attn: Philanthropy, 1567 Downtown West Blvd., Knoxville, TN 37919.
