Green's Karate, Chattanooga's only Olympic Karate Training facility, has their largest karate team assembled to compete at the USANKF Karate Nationals held in Chicago from Sept. 1-5.
Joel Westbrook, the veteran competitor on the team and in a wheelchair, is a three-time international and national champion and is going for the fourth nationals this year. Mr. Westbrook has been training for five years, has 23 gold medals under his belt, and is only 14 years old.
Green's Karate will have its 14th appearance since 2006 and have 13 competitors this year with students ages ranging from 6-67. Despite COVID, shutdowns, change of date of the national event to make way for the Olympics scheduling of Karate's Olympic debut and all other obstacles, Green's Karate is still bringing the largest team ever to represent the Scenic City.
Green's Karate has moved from their location in Hixson into their new facility at 5319 Ringgold Road Suite G.
