Dixie Downer Thomas, 96, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2021, at a local hospital. 

She was born on September 3, 1924 in Chattanooga, to the late Thomas Leon Edwards and Minnie May Edwards.

Dixie was employed by Miller Brothers where she was the manager of the beauty salon and later worked for Stephens Construction Co. as a bookkeeper. 

She was a member of Falling Water Baptist Church and later attended Alpine Baptist Church.

 Dixie had many passions, one of which was creating beautiful flower beds in her yard. She took great pride in her yard, home and her flowers. Spring time was a favorite time of the year for her.  She also enjoyed spending hours in the kitchen to make her family and friends delicious home cooked meals and homemade cakes and desserts. Along with those things, she had a beautiful collection of Fenton glass that she has collected all over the country. She loved to sew, quilt and crochet.  Her collection of quilts and afghans are as beautiful as she was.  Her heart was all about what she could do for others and never ask for anything in return. 

Dixie was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, E. M. Downer and James Winfred Wint Thomas of 26 years. She was also preceded in death are her siblings:  Ida Lee Evett, Ralph Edwards, Jesse (Tobe) Edwards, Helen Welch, T. L. Edwards, Jr., Hazel Martin, Donald C. Edwards, & Wanda C. Byrd.

 Survivors include her sister, Bettye (Mousey) Janow, James E. Downer, Jr., niece, Faye Bledsoe, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

 Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hamilton Funeral with Reverend Jimmy Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

 Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 6, from 4-7 p.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 7, from 10-11 a.m. prior to the funeral service in the chapel of Hamilton Funeral Home.

 Special Thank You to James Downer, as Dixie thought of him as her own son.  The family would like to Thank Faye Bledsoe & family for the very special care and attention they gave Dixie.

 Pallbearers will be James Downer, Jamie Downer, Andrew Bigham, Brook Bledsoe, Brad Bledsoe and Bart Bledsoe.
