Lawrence "Larry" Michael Mitchell, born May 19, 1949, passed away peacefully at home with family on the morning of August 1, 2021. He was 72.

 

Larry retired as an Administrative Lieutenant with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, where he served his community faithfully from 1977 until retirement in 2004. He also served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS America, then the Army National Guard as SSGT with the 1-181st Field Artillery Battalion. He served in the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm in Iraq.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Gertrude Mitchell and his brother, Jim Mitchell.

 

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Teresa Schlicher-Mitchell, daughters Jill Mitchell and Carrie (Billy Nichols) Vickery, grandsons Alex Michael and James Lawrence, granddaughter Ida, sister Marie McCrary, brother Jerry (Carla) Mitchell, Brother in Blue Jon Casler, several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Honorary Blue Family with HCSO, CPD, and other local law enforcement agencies.

Visitation will be on Friday, Aug. 6, at Hamilton Funeral Home in Hixson, from 1-7:30 p.m.
