The Covenant women's soccer team notched their second shutout victory of the season with their 5-0 win at Salem Saturday afternoon.
The Scots tallied 21 shots, 16 of which were on goal, while the Spirits' totaled nine shots for the match.
Covenant's hot scoring started in the 19th minute, when Aiden Strawbridge scored her first collegiate goal off a free kick, making it 1-0. The second score was not far behind, as Kailey Burrell made it 2-0 in the 27th minute, scoring her first goal of the match.
Soon after, in the 35th minute, Emma Riggs got one past Salem goalie, Jordan Tomberlin, making it 3-0 in favor of Covenant heading into the second half.
Riggs was assisted by Leah Marr.
The Scots picked up right where they left off, as they would score twice more in the second period. In the 65th minute, freshman Mae Pierce was able to beat her defender, scoring her first collegiate goal and giving Covenant a 4-0 lead.
Not long after, in the 78th minute, Burrell would score her second goal of the game (sixth of the season) assisted by Mary Streets, sealing the 5-0 shutout victory for the Scots.
Burrell led the Scots with six shots, all of which were on goal, and two goals. Rachel Wall tallied five shots, with three being on goal. Strawbridge and Riggs both recorded two shots, which were also all shots on goal.
Lucy Sandhoff played the first period in the goal for Covenant, tallying three saves. Leilani Brown played the second, recording two saves.
Baylee Greenwood led Salem with four shots. Tomberlin got the start in the goal for the Spirits in the first half and had four saves. She was relieved by Tori Long for the second period, who tallied six saves.
The Scots improve to 3-4, while Salem falls to 4-4.
Covenant will travel to Birmingham Southern on Wednesday, September 22. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m.
