West Tennessee's Mike Marlar (# 157) became the first three time winner Saturday night of the Knoxville Late Model Nationals, pocketing the $50,000 victory with the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model series. Marlar, from Winfield battled with pole sitter Tim McCreadie of New York and Friday's preliminary ($7,000) winner Tyler Erb of Texas before leading the final 10 circuits in the 100 lap weekend finale. McCreadie would finish second. Tennessean Jimmy Owens, a two time winner, finished seventeenth.
Out in Texas, the hottest racer in America, Georgian Brandon Overton (# 76), took the $50,000 Super Late Model Texas Dirt Nationals event at Dallas' Texas Motor Speedway Saturday night.
Bobby Pierce of Illinois was second and early race leader Stormy Scott of New Mexico was third behind the Evans, Georgia race winner. Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN was ninth and Fort Payne's Sam Seawright was sixteenth overall.
