Rosie Mae Wyatt, 91, of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021, in her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Rosie was born February 14, 1930 in Greensboro, Ga., to the late Jennie Wright Hammond and Frank Smith. She retired from UTC, where she worked over 25 years. Rosie was a faithful member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Avondale, where she served as an usher for more than 30 years, until her health declined. She loved listening to gospel and blues music, pitching horseshoes, walking, shopping, and traveling, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her seven children, Danny L. Wyatt of Rochester, NY, Myra V. Kelley, Brenda Wyatt-Talley, Tommy (Alma Clay) Wyatt, all of Chattanooga, Tina Wyatt (Gary) Hall of Antioch, TN, Jennie Wyatt (Walter) Scruggs of Covington, GA, and Debra (Lavon) Hines of Chattanooga; three dearly beloved extended children, Valerie Swanson (niece), Arlandis Roberson (nephew), both of Chattanooga, and Ivory Hammond (nephew) of San Francisco, CA; two sisters, Mary Helen Roberson of Chattanooga and Elma A. Benson of Covington, GA; devoted sister-in-law, Ella Dezora Rhynes of Chattanooga; brother-in-law, Cephas Wyatt of Virginia Beach, SC; devoted cousin, Gloria Wyatt Hood of Chattanooga; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and a dearly loved special group of friends. Special thanks to her extended granddaughter, Amara Bryant for her devoted time and love; Dr. Collin Cherry, NP Yvonne Hughes of AlleoHealth; Hospice of Chattanooga; Nurse Peyton Arnold, and CNA Me’shell Hill for helping take care of our mom.

Rosie will lie in state on Monday, Sept. 6, from 12:30-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Willie Thompson, Jr. as the eulogist. Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
