Native Of Chattanooga Held Career In Banking And Finance And Attended Seminary

Alan Church, 69, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died peacefully at his home on September 11, 2021. 

He was born July 19, 1952, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 1970 he graduated from Chattanooga High School and then obtained a business degree from University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. Afterwards he earned an MBA from University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His career was in banking and finance, first on Wall Street with JP Morgan and then later in Charlotte with Bank of America.  After his retirement, he entered Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and earned a Master of Theological Studies. Illness prevented him from continuing to complete the Master of Divinity. Besides having many community volunteer activities, he focused on joyfully serving the Lord as a volunteer chaplain in prison ministries and at Park Point Village Retirement community in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He attended Central Church of Charlotte and leaves behind many dear friends and family members.

Alan was predeceased by his parents, Mary Elizabeth Burton Church and John Clayton Church, Sr.

He is survived by one brother, John Clayton Church (Therese); three nieces: Nora Charlesworth of Alpharetta GA. (Sean), Mamie Joanna Finch of Minneapolis, MN (Craig), Alana Church of Anchorage, Alaska; and by five grand nieces and nephews. 

Services to celebrate the life of Alan Church will be held at a later date in the chapel of Gordon-Conwell Seminary, Charlotte campus. Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park with honorary pallbearers, John Church and Ed Hullender.
