Bettie Newman Armstrong
Surrounded by family members, Bettie Newman Armstrong, 95, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, January 11, 2022, at Wood Dale Health Center.
Bettie was born in Tampa Florida on July 29, 1926. After graduation from the Grady Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta, she served as a devoted nurse for 49 years. Upon graduation she began her career at a hospital in Bainbridge, Ga. where she met her future husband and later moved to Dalton. Bettie served in various nursing and supervisory roles (Emergency Room, Westcott, SPD, and Hospice) at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton for over 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Herbert (Hebo) Gentry Armstrong, Sr.; mother Pearl Reddick Newman; and siblings Carl Joseph Newman, Jr. of Madison, Wi.; Irma Lee Mitchell of Tampa, Fl.; and Elsie Mae Baird of Rogersville, Tn.
She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Ruth Chavez of Deland, Fl.; daughters, Kay Armstrong (Anne) of Flowery Branch, Ga., Dara Lehner (Joe) of Raeford, N.C., and Ann O'Connor (John) of South Haven, Mi.; sons, Bo Armstrong (Lynn) of Ringgold, Ga., and Alan Armstrong (Ginger) of Newnan, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and a host of nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and former colleagues.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, Jan. 14, from 4-8 p.m. at Love Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Armstrong will be held on Saturday, Jan. 15, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery.
