Ruth Ann Ross Rogers

Ruth Ann Ross Rogers, of Dalton, Georgia, went to Heaven on Saturday, January 15, 2022.

She was born and raised in Murray County, Ga. and was a graduate of Murray County High School where she met the love of her life, Gene Rogers. She and Gene both were captains of the Murray County Basketball team, and she was very proud of her Murray roots.  After she and Gene graduated high school, they married and moved to Dalton, where they founded Gene Rogers Construction Company in 1959.  They also raised their three children in Dalton. With that being said, her children, and grandchildren attended Dalton Public Schools, and she loved chanting to her kids, grandkids, and anyone else that she had the opportunity to, “Murray Murray, rah rah rah, Dalton Dalton, ha ha ha.” She definitely had a sense of humor.

Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gene Rogers, in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents, George W. and Charlie Ruth Bond Ross; her brother, Paul H. Ross, all of Murray County; and her son-in-law, Randy Thornton, of Cohutta, Ga.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Thornton; her son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Maureen Rogers, and daughter and son-in-law, Sandi and Hap Hannah; grandchildren, Julie (Jimmy) Johnson, Adam (Amanda) Thornton, Andi (David) Locander, Allison Rogers (Logan Greene), Michelle Rogers (Vicente Moreno), Alex (Cole) Gillean, Jameson Hannah (Silvey Gregg); great-grandchildren, Blakely, Brenner, Bowen and Breckyn Thornton, Gene Locander, and Charlie Gillean; and also extended family, Ann Dwight (Charles).

Anyone that knew Ruth Ann, knew how she could light up any room as soon as she walked in. Whether it was through her many little sayings, nursery rhymes, cheers and chants or just her beautiful smile and kindness she showed to all, she was a joy to be around. She was truly an angel on earth.

A special thank you to Community Hospice and Hamilton Health Care for making our mom more comfortable in her final days. A special thank you to Chris Barrett for his love and care.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 22, in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. until the funeral hour of 5 p.m. Her loving brother, the Reverend George Ross, will be officiating her funeral.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to one’s favorite charity.
