TSWA Taps 12 Area Volleyball Standouts For 2021 All-State Teams

Cleveland, Sale Creek, Notre Dame Lead With Three Honorees Each

The Chattanooga area was well represented on the Tennessee Sports Writers Association 2021 All-State Volleyball teams. A total of six schools had 12 combined student-athletes named to the squad. 

For Division I, in Class AAA, Cleveland had three selectees, while Class AA schools East Hamilton and Signal Mountain had one each. Sale Creek, a Class A school, had three named.

In Division II-AA, Baylor saw one player tapped, while in DII-A Notre Dame picked up three honorees.

Junior outside hitter Addison Hurst from Cleveland, along with sister, freshman middle hitter Lauren were tabbed, along with junior setter Kinslee McGowan were the Lady Blue Raider selectees.

Addison had 486 kills, 360 digs and 56 aces for the Lady Blue Raiders, while Lauren added 514 kills and 245 digs.
McGowan led the local area with 1,145 assists and 93 aces. She added 283 digs and 182 kills to her resume.

In Class AA, Signal Mountain’s Carlee Lowry, a freshman libero, was honored, along with East Hamilton senior outside hitter McKenna Hayes. Hayes led the Lady Canes to a runner-up finish at the state tourney with a 30-6 record. 

Lowry, a two sport standout for the Lady Eagles put together 244 kills, 368 digs, 33 blocks and 312 assists in an all around effort on the court. Hayes, likewise a multisport star, had a stellar season with 232 kills, 244 digs, 30 blocks and 71 aces.

Sale Creek’s trio of All-Staters consisted of a pair of sophomores and an eighth grader, led the Lady Panthers to a 30-13 record and an appearance in the state tournament. Sophomore McKenzie Parks, an outside hitter, is joined by fellow sophomore Ava Higgins, a middle hitter. Karma Jones, an eighth grade setter rounds out the threesome.

Higgins led the Lady Panthers with 425 kills, 177 digs and 58 blocks, while Jones contributed 776 assists and 79 aces and 242 digs.

In Division II, Baylor’s contribution to the team is junior libero Elli Kinney. Notre Dame’s trio of superlatives are three seniors who led the Lady Irish to a 29-6 record and a spot in the DII-A loser’s bracket finals. Regan Wolfe, a middle hitter, is joined by libero Riley McCormick and setter Mary Fillauer on the team.

Kinney, a much recruited member of the Lady Red Raiders, finished the season with 443 digs, 33 aces, and 83 kills. 

Wolfe a standout for the Lady Irish, had 436 kills and 101blocks, while teammate Fillauer finished with28 assists per match – the best in the area. She also had a total of 1,040 assists, 216 kills, 186 digs and 43 blocks.
